Preventing falls in the elderly – results of evaluation of systematic reviews

Overview

Falls are serious problem of elderly population.

Aim:

The aim of the review is evaluate the results of systematic reviews dealing with fall prevention in the elderly.

Methods:
This is a review. The following databases were searched to obtain the studies of the highest quality of evidence: PubMed, Science Direct, Cochrane Library.

Results:
This review includes twenty five systematic reviews. Individual interventions targeting the most important risk factors for falls and multifactorial interventions significantly help reduce falls in elderly in institutions.

Conclusion:
Further research is needed on effectiveness of single as well as multifactorial interventions for fall prevention in elderly.
