The detection of atherosclerotic alterations in the carotid vessels is useful as a strong guide inthe uncovering of systemic atherosclerosis. Patients presenting with risk factors of ischemicheart disease have a higher risk of coronary heart attacks, this allows us to start earlytreatment. The diagnosis and treatment of significant stenoses of either the common or internalcarotid vessels is an important component in the prevention of cerebral stroke.
