It is useful to distinguish three components of quality of life: subjective wellbeing/satisfaction, functioning in social roles and living conditions. All three components can be affected by psychopharmacotherapy. Psychotropic drugs have a direct influence on subjective well-being and satisfaction. They have an effect on the level of social functioning. Social functioning can affect living conditions.
