Medical care of irradiated subjects in the Czech Republic is ensured by a so-called two-gradesystem. First aid and emergency prehospital care at the workplace is organized by the employervia trained collaborators together with doctors engaged in occupational health services anddoctors of the emergency medical service. Subsequent specialized medical care is provided bynewly established Centres for special medical care of people irradiated during radiationaccidents who work in selected clinical departments of faculty hospitals.The authors inform the broad medical public on basic principles of provision of first aid andprehospital emergency care to subjects with different types of radiation accidents.
