Overview
Foreign bodies in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) in adults are not encountered frequently nowadays. Therefore the authors present the case of a female patient who swallowed a large silver teaspoon which was removed endoscopically using a plastic tube. The discussion is focused on indication of endoscopic extraction of foreign bodies from the upper GIT, the use of suitable instruments, possible complications during extraction and their prevention. The use of a plastic tube seems appropriate. During extraction special care must be taken to prevent aspiration and injury of the oesophagus.
