The author describes the tase of a 51-year-old female with a large myxoma in the left atrium. Its first clinical manifestation was minor embolic cerebral ischaemia with central hemiparesis of nerve VII. After a comprehensive examination in a regional hospital, the patient was successfully operated on the 13th day after the beginning of symptoms, at the cardiosurgical clinic. In the discussion the author describes the incidence of primary heart tumours, frequency distribution according to histology and localization. The author also presents the main clinical symptoms of primary heart tumours. He summarizes statistickl data on surgical success in individual types of heart tumours.
