Overview

Adenocarcinoma of the prostate is as to its incidence one of the most frequent soud tumours. The mortality from this tumour is not negligible either. Discovery of PSA as one of the best markers opened the discussion on screening of this disease.Screening (overall) or early detection (in a certain group) of adenocarcinoma is one of the ways how to reduce the mortality from this disease. The idea is to detect the disease in early and thus still curable stages. However, the volume of new information changes views regarding this problem. Also answers to these questions change - who will implement the screening or early detection, in whom and under what conditions, how frequently should it be repeated, when should it be stopped or not started at all.

Key words:
adenocarcinoma of the prostate - screening - PSA - digital rectal examination
