A review dealing with the relationship between female obesity and disorders of the menstrualcycle and hormonal changes in obese women. Attention is paid to the effect of sex steroids onthe adipose tissue distribution, the amount of body fat during puberty, in postmenopausalwomen, women taking hormonal substitution therapy and in the polycystic ovary syndrome.
