Contribution to the Diagnosis of Febrile Conditions with Lymphadenitis

Overview

The author presents the case-history of a 71-year-old man with incipient phlegmon of the leftthumb and axillary lymphadenitis. Despite surgical treatment and augmentin administrationfever and alteration of the general condition persist. Based on anamnestic data on contact witha presumably sick hare the possibility of the ulceroglandular form of tularaemia was conside-red. Treatment with deoxymykoin. 2x 100 mg, was started and a blood sample was taken forserological examination. Basic laboratory and X-ray examinations did not contribute towardsthe diagnosis. The latter was confirmed only after serological examination for tularaemia twoweeks after the first negative serological examination.After deoxymykoin the general condition improved rapidly, as well as the laboratory finding.In the discussion the author deals briefly with the differential diagnosis of tularaemia and somepathological findings.
