Overview
The author provides an overview of the expansion of the Integrated Management of Childhood lllness (IMCI) Strategy in the world and of the guideline adaptations after the first experience with its implementation. IMCI, developed by the World Health Organization and UNICEF, is at present in different stages of implementation in more than 80 countries. In order to ensure the sustainability of IMCI implementation, emphasis shifts from conducting IMCI in-service clinical courses to the introduction of IMCI roto pre-service teaching at medical and paramedical schools.
