Neonatal candidosis is the main mycotic infection in infants calling for intensive care. Subjects of the presentedstudy were preterm infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit between January 1995 and June 1998. Theyeast-like organisms were diagnosed by their morphological and biochemical properties. From the clinical materialmost frequently C. albicans (42.7 %), C. parapsilosis (35.7 %), C. tropicalis (6.9 %), C. claussenii and C.guilliermondii (3.5 % each) were isolated. In 4.7 % other species were detected. The highest incidence of yeast-like,microorganisms was recorded in the oral cavity, on the skin and rectum.
