Overview
Scabies is a purely human skin infestation affecting all age groups and socioeconomic classes. Underestimation of the incidence, inconsequent examination of the clinical features and particularities of scabies in children can lead to misdiagnosis and mismanagement of the disease.
We describe a newborn with scabies crustosa and circumstances leading to the incorrect diagnosis and treatment. Scabies should always be considered in patients with papular exanthema associated with pruritus.
Key words:
scabies – scabies crustosa – mismanagement – diagnosis – treatment
