Objective:
The aim of this paper is to provide a brief update review of current pharmacologicalagents used to treat women with GSI (Genuine Stress Incontinence).Design: Review article.Setting: Gynecological and Obstetric Clinic, 1. LF UK and VFN, Apolinářská 18, Prague 2.Results: Genuine stress urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine associated withincreasing of intraabdominal pressure (such as running, jumping, coughing, etc.). Although thepelvic fl oor muscle training, behavioral and surgical therapies are currently the mainstay of treatingGSI, we believe that pharmacological treatment can help to increase the cure rate. With theadvent of duloxetine, a serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine [5-HT]) and norepinephrine (NE) reuptakeinhibitor acting within the sacral spinal cord, the role of pharmacological treatment of GSImust be reviewed ev. re-examined.
