Overview
Terms with the prefix “nano“ represent a utilization of structures in the nanometer-dimensions. Whereas nano-materials are only passive particles, nano-technologies mean the use of nano-robots with active behavior. Nano-technologies could be used in the future in periodontology, orthodontics or for diagnosis and selective therapy of orofacial cancers. Until recently they haven’t been in an investigation stage. Nano-materials are now being used in industry and medicine. In the field of dentistry its application is relatively frequent in conservative dentistry, in the area of bone substitutions and in dental implantology.
Key words:
nanomaterials - nanotechnology - nanostructures
