Sexual Abuse and Rape Experiences in Female Schizophrenic Patients

Overview
Authors have compared answers of 60 female patiens (18 – 59 years) with diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoafective disorder with the answers of 703 women of the same age from the representative survey of sexual behavior in general population in the Czech Republic. The women with schizophrenia reported sexual abuse experiences in childhood in 29 % (9 % repeatedly) and rape experiences as adults in 29 % (15 % repeatedly). These prevalence is significantly higher than in general population, where the prevalence of sexual abuse is 11 % and the prevalence of rape eperiences is 12 %.
