Overview

In the article authors referred so theresults of retrospective study, which aim was to compare groups of patients who had been examined at Psychiatric Clinic Faculty Hospital in Bratislava with diagnosis of attempted suicide (tentamen suicidii; TS) in 1985 and 2002. The data were compared with published data from The Institute of Health Information and Statistics and Demographic Research Centre for referred years 1985 and 2002 and with last published data for the year 2004. The results of the study indicate decreased tendency in suicide and TS in Slovakia. Character of TS has changed, recently dominates pathological motivation in mentally ill patients, who had been psychiatrically treated in the past. The method in 1985 and 2002 was the same; the most frequently used intentional self-poisoning by exposure to drugs.
