Overview

The paper describes the formulation of hydrogels based on carbopol with an ethanol extract of the white lily with an anti-inflammatory effect. The active ingredients of the hydrogel were in the form of 60% and 80% ethanol extracts from the white lily and the ethanol lily extract supplied by Calendula, a. s. Nová Ľubovňa, Slovakia. Flow characteristics of the prepared hydrogels were evaluated by a rotational viscosimeter on the 2nd, 7th, 14th and 28th days after preparation. Based on the achieved results, the best flow characteristics were obtained from 1% carbopol hydrogel with a 2.4% concentration of 80% ethanol lily extract. According to the liberation of the active ingredients from the prepared hydrogels as well as the solitary ethanol extracts of the white lily, the content of extractive compounds was determined by the gravimetric method. The content was then colorimetrically standardized to the main flavonoid part – kempferol. Due to the highest content of kempferol and its optimal rheological properties, the hydrogel with 2.4% of 80%-ethanol extract of the white lily was evaluated as the most suitable one.

Key words:
hydrogel – carbopol – white lily – rheological parameters – liberation
