Radiotherapy of Age- related Macular Degeneration

Overview
The authors evaluate results of the radiotherapy by age-related macular degeneration. They have been performed in Department of Ophthalmology of TeachingHospital of Charles University in Hradec Králové from February 1999 to June2000. Our group consisted of 23 patients (23 eyes), 10 males and 13 females in agefrom 41 to 83 years, with average of 69 yrs. They were evaluated 6 months afterbeginn of radiotherapy. The patients were divided into 2 groups. 11 patients withthe entry visual acuity 6/60 - 6/24 and 12 patients with the entry visual acuity0,25/50 - 3/50.The study proved the fact that it is possible to treat the exsudative form of agerelated macular degeneration using radiotherapy.
