Overview
Corneal lamellas created by two different microkeratomes – oscillating androtating are compared. Oscillating microkeratome Flapmaker (Refractive Tech-nologies) and rotating Dreager microkeratome (Storz) were used for this study.Diameter and thickness of the lamella were assessed. Rabbit lamella created bythe same procedure as human differs significantly and this limits the interpreta-tion of rabbit experiments to the human eyes. Oscillating microkeratome Flapma-ker created more precise and standard lamella (standard deviation 4 timessmaller) compared to rotating Storz on human eyes. Differences in lamella thic-kness in different topografical areas of the lamella were 3,3 times smaller withFlapmaker. We conclude that desired mean lamella thickness homogenity indifferent topografical areas of the lamella are much better with Flapmakercompared to Dreager microkeratome on human eyes.
