Overview
The paper describes the development of an algorithm for the basic evaluation of the electrocardiogram (ECG) by means of eight steps, in which both rhythm and ischaemic changes are evaluated. The eight-step ECG evaluation method was modified and the algorithm was developed through action research and a modified Delphi method. The procedure can be used by all healthcare professionals in primary care, i.e. nurses, paramedics and general practitioners. This method is a modified interpretation of the ECG. It is not a substitute for conventional electrocardiogram assessment, but makes it a useful diagnostic tool for healthcare professionals with less experience in this area.
