Overview
Cushing’s syndrome is a rare disorder characterised by increased autonomous production of cortisol and its exaggerated effects on virtually all tissues in the human body. Therefore its clinical presentation is very complex. One of its main features is significantly increased morbidity and mortality mainly due to cardiovascular disorders. This article reviews basic knowledge about Cushing’s syndrome, pathogenesis of clinical signs, mainly those related to increased cardiovascular risk and basics of diagnosis and treatment of Cushing’s syndrome.
Keywords:
Cushing’s syndrome – hypertension – metabolic syndrome – cardiovascular risk
