Overview
The author describes the association between depression and cardiovascular disease. He emphasizes the direct link between these two groups of disorders (not only from the psychological point of view but also with respect to their biological basis). He describes suitable antidepressant therapy for cardiovascular patients. Correct antidepressants should be save and efficacious in acute therapy as well as in long‑term treatment. SSRI antidepressants are still the first step in depression therapy of these risk cardiovascular patients today.
Key words:
depression – antidepressants – SSRI – cardiovascular disease
