Overview
The authors deal with daily and weekly changes of the incidence of acute myocardial infarctions during 1999–2002 in the town Brno (total 791 case, 575 of them being men and 216 women). The authors have searched for possible differences between this data set and the similar set of infarctions during 1982–86 from the whole Czech Republic elaborated by Květoň. In spite of substantial socio-economical changes in current human life in Czech society, no substantial differences have been found. Our study includes the analysis of incidence of infarctions separately for men and women and for working days and weekend days. Newly the authors emphasise that the forenoon maximum is doubled (differences being statistically significant) and discuss the possible causes of both these maxima and also the 2 secondary maxima in the afternoon. As to the weekly changes of myocardial infarction incidence, in contrast to the results obtained 20 years ago (maxima on Monday and Friday) now maxima on Monday and Thursday were found. The cause of the shift of secondary maximum from Friday to Thursday is not yet clear.
Key words:
