Myths on diet and prevention of atherosclerosis

Overview
Cardiovascular disease is globally the number one cause of premature death and disability. Physical activities and good nutrition play a crucial role in maintaining health and fighting disease. There is lot of conflicting information spread around. Many myths influence consumers‘ food choices and lot of myths is about fats and their role in the diet. It looks like there are new discoveries in the field of nutrition science. However, there are only relatively minor shifts in dietary guidelines for fat and fatty acids. People should have an appropriate energy intake, eat less foods high in saturated, trans fatty acids, prefer unsaturated fatty acids; use less salt; enjoy fruits, vegetables and legumes; and select foods of plant and marine origin and low fat dairy.
