Overview

Cardiac anesthesia and postoperative care in cardiac surgery have their specifics, which differ from other specialties. The last two years marked by the COVID-19 pandemic were associated with a slowdown in elective cardiac surgery. Currently, the number of procedures is increasing again. New drugs are tested, new guidelines are published, innovative and hybrid procedures are performed, with the goal of reducing invasiveness for the patients. The aim of this review is to present readers with the important outputs of publications related to cardiac anesthesia, postoperative care in cardiac surgery, and the use of extracorporeal circulatory support over the past year.
