Overview
Reconstructive laparoscopy in urology includes reconstructions of congenital or acquired urogenital disorders and resections of impaired parts of urogenital organs aiming to preserve their functions.
Among these procedures belong partial adrenalectomy, partial nephrectomy, pyeloplasty, ureterolithotomy, ureteral replacement, ureteral reimplantation, autoaugmentation of the bladder, enterocystoplasty, bladder diverticulectomy, and laparoscopic varicocelectomy and orchiopexy in pediatric urology.
Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgery technique, offering patients effective treatment, decreased stress and blood loss with better recovery after operation and lower postoperative pain, and its long-time results are comparable with open surgery. Some procedures form part of standard treatment (pyeloplasty, varicocelectomy, etc.), others belong among experimental surgery techniques (bladder replacement, ureteral replacement etc).
Open surgery remains the method of choice in the treatment of locally advanced diseases, complicated cases and high-risk patients, who cannot undergo laparoscopy with capnoperitoneum.
