LIVER TRAUMA IN ADULTS AND ITS COMPLICATIONS

Overview

The authors describe a group of 65 patients with liver injury treated in the Trauma Centre of University Hospital OstravaPoruba during last 5 years. Blunt injuries prevailed (80 %) as at other European clinics. Simple liver injury of the Ist and IInd grade according to AAST occurred in 39 patients, serious liver trauma of the IIIrd and Vth grade in 26 cases.

28 patients (43,1 %) were treated conservatively, 37 patients underwent surgical treatment. In operated patients, liver sutures in combination with ligation of bleeding vessels prevailed (73 %), the intervention was combined with the method of DCS (damage control surgery) in 12 patients with continual peroperative bleeding.

Postoperative complications were treated in 10 patients (15,4 %). The most frequent complications: postoperative bleeding, biliary leak and fluidothorax. The overall mortality in our group of 65 patients with liver injury was 20 %.
