Overview

The computer (electronic) crossmatch (CCM) is the method for blood compatibility screening based on correctly collected donor as well as recipient data and its safe insert to the information (computing) system. Subsequently the software by pre-set and constant pre-requisites determines the acceptable blood for transfusion or refers blood units to the serological crossmatch. The computer crossmatch in labor of Central Military Hospital Prague is the superstructure of laboratory information (computing) system for blood bank lab and ensure accomplishment of terms for blood administration with no serological crossmatching. Validation of the CCM was based on: 1. verification of general condition (i.e. data transfer), 2. performance of special designed SW tests 3. parallel performance of 150 test by serological and computer crossmatch. The CCM we implemented routinely since August 1, 2005 and actually we use it in 85% cases. The method saves time and costs significantly.
