Overview

This review summarizes of present views on therapeutic indications of human albumin solutionstherapeutic indications.Human albumin solutions have been used for treatment for several decades,nevertheless,opinions on their use are very different.Acceptable indications are:hypovolaemiatherapy in patients with acute nephrosis,in pregnancy,in septic shock in children,in patients at riskfor coagulation disorders;extensive burns;cardiac and paediatric surgery,liver transplantation;prevention and treatment of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome;exchange transfusion for treatmentof hyperbilirubinaemia in neonates;decompensated hepatic cirrhosis with ascites;in patients withcirrhosis and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis;Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome;therapeuticplasmapheresis and especially when other colloid solutions are contraindicated or dose limited.
