Overview
A questionnaire survey assessed the use of autologous programmes in the Czech Republic in 2000. Thenumber of preoperative autologous donations stagnated in comparison to 1999. The number of autologous donations processed into blood components increased as well as the number of erythrocytaphereses and plasmaphereses. Thrombocytaphereses and umbilical blood collection for autotransfusionswere not done. In some health institutions the use of mikroaggregate filtres has been started forretransfusion of autologous blood components. Detection of positive findings in mandatory microbiological tests in preoperative autologous donation was comparable with donor reported. In acutenormovolaemic haemodilution and perioperative blood salvage data on the number operations andcollected blood units of erythrocytes are not complete.
