Riding a Bicycle and Patellofemoral Compartment Syndrome

Overview

The often recommended bicycle riding is not always the most suitable form of activity for patients with functional locomotor pathology. Even a mildly intensive pedalling is accompanied by substantial strength moments in the region of patellofemoral joint, which may result in patellofemoral compartment.

Etiology of femoropatellar syndrome is always multifactorial. It becomes manifest in parapatellar pain with may functional, but also micro morphological changes in the patellofemoral joint as well as in other periarticular tissues.

The objective of the contribution is to summarize recent available knowledge and call attention to different possibilities in the choice of rational rehabilitation program, based on the results of studies on the EBM principles.
