Traumatic tetraplegia is a fundamental change in life and calls for permanent adaptation of the patientand his family. An enormous potential as regards improvement of the quality of life of the injured isreconstruction of the function of the upper extremity. Reconstruction of the hand grip from thefunctional aspect shifts the level of the injured spine by several segments lower. Surgical reconstructionmust be an integral part of the arsenal of comprehensive care of tetraplegic patients.
