Overview

Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) is an endoscopic method used for the diagnostics of mucosal changes that accompany the development and growth of epithelial tumors. The method helps to see the mucosal surface with greater contrast between epithelium and mucosal blood vessels than in white light. This is achieved by using specially filtered light. Even tiny millimeter changes not observable in white light can be visualized using NBI. The method is used in otorhinolaryngology in the outpatient setting as a screening method, or in the follow-up of patients with a history of cancer treatment, as well as during surgical procedures for targeting biopsies and for precise identification of the resection margins during cancer surgery.
