Overview

The therapy of larynx cancer is among others dependent on the localization and sizeof primary tumor, the extent of node involvement, general health state of the patient and therequired quality of voice. The techniques of partial or almost total resections of larynx enablesurgical therapy in selected cases without necessary removal of larynx on the whole. The paperanalyzed a cohort of 69 patients with carcinoma of larynx. The three-year overall survival in thegroup was 65%, five-year survival being 49%. A partial resection was performed in 24 patients of thegroup. The authors analyze performed partial resection of larynx in view of different clinical andhistopathological classification and draw attention to insufficient or excessive radicality of theintervention. Factors of particular importance, participating in the indications of partial resectionsof larynx are discussed. The best results in postoperation survival were reached after chordectomyand vertical partial resections of larynx. Local relapses were observed more frequently in supraglottictumors and horizontal resections of larynx. After horizontal interventions there was alsoa higher morbidity in the postoperation period.
