The authors summarize the history, main principles and contemporary role of examinations ofacoustic evoked potentials as an objective method in the audiometric diagnosis of hearingdisorders. Attention is devoted to evaluation of findings, the irreplaceable character of themethod in the diagnosis of vestibular schwannoma (neurinoma of the acoustic nerve) is stressed.
