Overview

Aim:
To evaluate methods of treatment of a foreign body inserted into the urogenital tract for the purpose of sexual stimulation.

Methods:
Ten patients were treated at the Department of Urology at University Hospital in Pilsen, between January 2006 and December 2012 (9 males on 1 female) for insertion if a foreign body into the urogenital tract. All patients had X-ray of small pelvis, sonographic examination of urinary bladder and abdominal CT.

Results:
The average age of all patients was 40.5 years (between 14 and 71 years of age). The hospitalization lasted 2.6 days in average (between 1 and 7 days). Two patients were treated without the need of hospitalization. The inserted objects included 2 thermometers, 1 straw, 2 ballpoint pens, 1 pen refill, 1 coated wire (at the youngest patient), 1 tin wire, 1 solid silicone gel and 1 incrusted plastic tube, which had to be extracted from the bladder by an open surgery. Eight patients inserted the foreign body during masturbation, remaining 2 patients stated that the object was inserted by their sexual partner. All patients except 1 came to the hospital within a few hours after the insertion. Only 1 man came with the symptoms of extensive inflammatory complications of the urinary tract after few month. Four patients underwent an endoscopic treatment, 2 patients were treated by an open surgery, 2 patients removed the foreign body themselves, in 1 case the object was removed by a penile manipulation and in 1 case it was extracted using forceps. In 6 cases the foreign body was extracted from the urethra, in 2 cases from the bladder.

Conclusion:
In most cases endoscopy was used for extracting foreign bodies from the urethra. In rare cases when the object is large or fragile it is necessary to perform an open surgery.

Key words:
foreign body, endoscopy, urinary bladder, sexual stimulation, uretra.
