Overview

Birth weight charts currently used in the Czech Republic are based on a relatively small number of casescollected 25 years ago by Poláček and were published in 1971 and 1981. These data, especially for babies born inthe earlier weeks of gestation, seemed to be overestimated. New birth weight charts were calculated using datafrom 401 765 newborns. The source of data collected by the Institute of Health Information and Statistics of theCzech Republic were mandatory statistical data forms „Report on Newborn“ and „Report on Deliveres“ from1993 to 1996. New birth weight charts lowered the normal range of birthweight for earliest weeks of gestation.New data are slightly higher for full-term newborns. The distribution of weights was also analyzed.
