Overview
The author provides current basic knowledge about common sexually transmitted infections (STI) in clinical practice. The review deals with practical approaches to diagnostics and treatments of these diseases, including urogenital chlamydia infections, genital herpes simplex, condyloma acuminatum, trichomoniasis, vulvovaginitis and balanoposthitis. The distribution of STI in the population is not homogenous. STIs are often combined to form mixed infections with different incubation period, different clinical picture (often are asymptomatic) and require different therapeutic approaches. Venerological examination includes diagnostics, treatment and long-term follow-up of the patients with STI. Important parts of the process are prevention and screening.
