Overview

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease subjected to notification duty. Data of all TB patients are monitored and evaluated in the register of TB, which is merged with the information system for bacillary tuberculosis. The information system for bacillary tuberculosis is based on mandatory laboratory notification of all positive mycobacterial examinations. In 2018, 444 new cases or recurrences of TB of all forms and locations were reported in the Czech Republic. The relatively highest number of TB cases resided in the capital of Prague, and the least affected region was Zlinsky. Eighty percent of TB cases were confirmed bacteriologically. Five TB cases were reported in the age group 0–14 years. Thirty-three percent of TB cases were diagnosed in patients born in countries other than the Czech Republic. There were 12 patients with multi-drug resistant TB. Twenty-six deaths from TB were reported to the tuberculosis register. The Czech Republic, with a reported TB incidence rate of 4.2 cases per 100,000 population, ranks among the countries with the lowest incidence of TB in Europe.
