Overview
Diseases of the popliteal artery are divided into atherosclerotic and non-atherosclerotic that include embolism, aneurysm, entrapment syndrome, cystic adventitial degeneration, external compression and trauma. Sonography, CT angiography, magnetic resonance imaging and conventional angiography are applied to diagnose popliteal artery diseases. Treatment involves conservative, surgical and, in specific cases, interventional methods, often used in combination.
